Ancrage à clé pour poteau

Pole Key Anchors are deep foundation support devices designed to reinforce poles at the ground line where load is unbalanced in soft soils or areas subjected to constant high winds. The system consists of an expanding steel unit that attaches to a 3/4-inch expanding anchor rod. Pole Key Anchors are specifically designed for use in soil classes 3, 4, 5, et 6 (200-600 inch-pound with soil test probe), and are particularly effective in loose soil conditions.

Installation of Pole Key Anchors involves attaching the anchor to the expanding rod, lowering the assembly into the pole hole beside the butt of the pole, and expanding it using an expanding/tamping bar. They must be installed perpendicular to the direction of the pull they are resisting. Pole Key Anchors work with utility poles, street light cables and fixtures in residential areas, and small angle poles where traditional guying is not required but soil reinforcement is needed. A second pole key anchor may be installed at ground level on the opposite side for additional support.

Principales fonctionnalités:
• Provides 276 square inches of bearing surface
• Compatible with 3/4-inch expanding anchor rods
• Requires no hole enlargement for installation
• Immediate load-bearing capability after installation
• Suitable for both single and paired configurations
• Effective in soft to medium density soils

Foire aux questions (FAQ)

What is a Pole Key Anchor?

A structural steel device used to reinforce poles in soft soils where loads are unbalanced. It compensates for light overturning loads such as service drops, prevailing winds, or small line angles, providing support at the pole butt when conventional guy wires and anchors aren’t practical.

What are the main features of Pole Key Anchors?

Made from high-strength structural steel with reinforcing ribs for extra strength. Features include special asphalt paint coating for corrosion protection, a nut retainer on the bottom, and powerfully ribbed design to affect undisturbed soil.

In what soil conditions are Pole Key Anchors used?

They work in soil Classes 3, 4, 5, et 6 (200-600 inch-pound with soil test probe). Most effective in soft soils where poles need reinforcement. Cependant, performance may be limited in extremely loose or wet conditions.

How is a Pole Key Anchor installed?

Installation requires digging a two-foot deep hole beside the pole, inserting a 3/4-inch anchor rod through the top hole, threading into the bottom plate, positioning the key, expanding it with a tamping bar, and properly backfilling.

What equipment is needed for installation?

Required tools include a 3/4-inch expanding anchor rod, expanding/tamping bar, and shovel. The installation process typically takes about 15 minutes to complete, significantly faster than traditional wood key installation methods.

What are the limitations of Pole Key Anchors?

They cannot replace guying on heavily-loaded structures and won’t withstand the same loads as proper guy wire and anchor systems. Should only be used where conventional guy wire and anchor installation isn’t feasible.

How does a Pole Key Anchor provide support?

It works by expanding in the soil next to the pole butt, creating resistance against lateral movement. The expanding mechanism allows the anchor to grip undisturbed soil, helping stabilize poles against light overturning forces.

What types of loads can Pole Key Anchors handle?

They’re designed for light overturning loads such as service drops, prevailing winds, and minor line angles. Not suitable for heavy strain situations or as primary support for major transmission lines.

How does maintenance work for Pole Key Anchors?

Once properly installed and expanded, they require minimal maintenance. The special asphalt coating provides long-term protection against corrosion, and the structural steel construction ensures durability in various soil conditions.
